Lining out with a 4-5-1 formation Tralee Dynamos never tested a dominant Waterford defence in the EA Sports Cup at Mounthawk Park on Wednesday night. Despite it being their first game of the season the home side were forced to start without the experienced James Sugrue and David Conway due to suspensions carry over.. Waterford were always in control  and some credit must be given to a Dynamos defence, lead by Maurice O’Rahilly, who restricted the visitors to a single first half goal that came in the  17th minute after some excellent work on the wing by  Paul Murphy, who along with  Dwayne Wilson tormented the Dynamos defence for the entire game.

The second half was only two minutes old when Shane Dempsey drilled a  free kick low to the bottom right hand corner of the net. Any lingering hopes of a Dynamos come back were shattered  with the goal of the game in the 63rd minute  when  Paul Murphy and Michael Rafter sliced through the Dynamos defence before laying the ball into the path of  Gary Keane who chipped  Peter Birdsall who had come off his line to narrow the angle. The final goal of the game was scored in the 78th minute when David Breen headed home an excellent cross from Keane to complete a bad day at the office for Tralee Dynamos..
