Heartbreak for Killarney Celtic
(By Christy Leahy)
The realities of the sporting world arrived at the feet of Killarney Celtic at Turners Cross on Sunday when they lost out to Cork City in the Umbro Youths Cup Final. A number of the Celtic players didn’t play to their true potential but they did not deserve to be beaten 4-1. They had an early chance to score but it was City who took the in the fifth minute when the Celtic defence failed to clear a City free kick. To their credit Celtic drew level in the 20th minute when David McCarthy finished a fine movement that involved Brendan Falvey and Peter Gunda who soon after crashed a header off the cross bar.
Cork City got the dream start of the second half when substitute Danny Morrissey scored the goal of the game in the 48th minute. Cork were to score twice more whereas Celtic hit the upright when the score stood at 3-1.
All involved in the Killarney Celtic journey that took them to the final as they did their club, their massive travelling support and the Kerry District proud with their discipline and sporting exploits.
